Frame Stage Inspections Melbourne
The Frame Stage Inspection is carried out once wall and roof framing is complete, but before linings or cladding conceal structural elements. This is one of the most important inspections in the build process.
Before the structure is concealed
Arrange the inspection when wall and roof framing is complete and before cladding or internal linings restrict access. Share the builder’s upcoming dates so scope and availability can be discussed.
What the inspection gives you
- Visible wall and roof framing, bracing, tie-downs and connections.
- Set-out, alignment, tolerances and workmanship in accessible areas.
- Written observations and photographs to support a practical discussion with your builder.
Scope and access come first
The inspection records visible, accessible conditions at the time. Concealed or inaccessible work cannot be fully assessed. Confirm the agreed scope, limitations, access and fee before booking.
A report with practical context
Written observations and photographs help you understand what was seen and discuss the findings. Ask ClearScope about the report format and any follow-up questions when arranging your inspection.
Start with the property and the timing
Send the address, current stage or purchase timeline, and any particular concerns. ClearScope will discuss the relevant scope, access, timing and fee before an inspection is arranged.

At this stage, we assess whether the framing complies with approved plans, engineering requirements, and relevant Australian Standards. This includes checking wall and roof framing layout, bracing, tie-downs, connections, tolerances, and general workmanship.
Structural framing provides the shape, strength, and load paths of the building. Errors or omissions at this stage can affect structural performance, internal finishes, and long-term durability if not addressed before the frame is enclosed.
At the Frame Stage Inspection, elements of the completed slab are also reviewed in context with the installed framing, allowing post-pour slab set-out, alignment, and tolerances to be assessed as the structure takes shape. This helps confirm that the slab and frame are working together as intended before the building progresses further.
Many aspects of the framing are then reviewed again at the Lock-Up Stage Inspection, once external walls and roofing are in place. This provides continuity across stages and allows framing elements to be reassessed after the building envelope has been completed.
A Frame Stage Inspection offers peace of mind that the building’s structural skeleton has been constructed correctly and that critical components are installed as intended. It also gives builders an opportunity to rectify items while access is still available.
Following the inspection, a comprehensive report is issued with clear descriptions and photos. This allows identified items to be discussed and resolved before proceeding to cladding or internal linings.
